Ornamental Pruning – Pruning to manage and maintain structural design integrity of a valuable specimen on a property
Restoration Pruning – Pruning to re-establish the ornamental structure of deciduous trees or evergreens (for whatever the expected use of these plants may be).
Developmental Pruning – Pruning that assists in the long-term development of trees branching structure (individual specimens, hedges or screening elements).
ANZI 300 Definitions for pruning according to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) are available on line. These standard definitions do not take into consideration the maintenance and care of prized ornamental pieces in our landscapes. The terminology I use is based on years of developed pruning practices and old world garden caretakers and is designed to support existing pruning definitions.
