Staying Healthy Helps Us Maintain Our Gardens

Staying Healthy Helps Us Maintain Our Gardens

It is an amazing experience discovering your immortality. I would want to say it is a positive experience but I honestly can’t. I have spent the past 4 years managing both me knees being replaced (2006), having a stroke (2009), and now rupturing my left bicep. At the end of this journey I know there will be many lessons learned, but in the midst of recovery there is only regret, depression, reflection, self discovery and finally acknowledgment of my own frailties. I have lost more than 2 years of my life recovering from my self inflicted injuries. I can’t help but wonder about all the many things I could have done and what I could have created in that amount of time.

One fact remains, we stay healthy – gardens have a greater opportunity to stay healthy as well. If you have read any of my other articles you should have learned of my desire to make everyone who likes plants and gardens, better. Better as consumers, better as designers, better at creating a plan and acting on that plan. Keeping yourself healthy is this articles message. Stay health for yourself first, then those who care about you and your community and finally for your environment. You are your environments advocate, and if you get sick or hurt, who will stand up for your patch of paradise. There is only one choice. Live. And not quietly. Live in such a way that your life demonstrates your beliefs, your passions and your hopes. I need all who pass by this page to find their way to an old tree and put your hand on it’s trunk. Feel the life it has lived. Try to envision what that tree may have witnessed. Time passes and we are constantly challenged with choices. What has time taught you and have the choices you made represent who you WISH to be?

It is the dream we need to be reaching for. Constantly reaching out, stretching ourselves so as not to skip a single opportunity to breath deeply and take it all in.

TAKE IT ALL IN, PLEASE TAKE IT ALL IN AND AFTER YOU HAVE FILLED YOURSELF UP, GIVE THAT MUCH MORE BACK TO THE WORLD AROUND YOU. CELEBRATE LIFE, EACH MOMENT OF EVERY DAY. JUST TRY. THE REWARDS FIND THEIR WAY BACK HOME.
