Climactic Changes Landscape Management

Welcome to the truth concerning maintenance of your lawn and gardens. 2010 Might be a season of warmer weather going into the end of September and October for the Northeastern United States. Don’t panic and give your landscaper the opportunity to sell you things you may not need. The living environment around us can be supplemented to enhance the trees and flowers but it is important to know what materials, what is under stress, how much material and how it effects the growth of the plants being treated.

Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree - It's over 60 years old.

Once we add something to the soil surrounding our plants it is going to effect the root development or the canopy of the plant (new leaves or evergreen material). This new material needs to be managed so the plants are prepared when the weather does get colder. Will the plant harden off enough to avoid winter damage? Will the plant benefit from an early winter prune to reduce the weight-load of the plant before the snow or ice arrives?

All actions performed will create reactions that may not benefit the natural order of the plant. This cycle of compensating for stressful situations in our gardens, many times ends up being counter-productive and a waste of money and energy. Instead there are solutions that strengthen plants without altering the soil too much, creating a greater degree of drought tolerance and stronger branching structure.

JUST KNOW ONE THING. EVERY PLANTING SCENARIO  HAS A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT WITH IT’S OWN SPECIFIC SOIL.

TREET ONE PLANT, ONE ENVIRONMENT AT A TIME WITH SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS.

Don’t be sold by all the overwhelming possible solutions. The best arborist or master gardener asks lots of questions, reviews the surrounding protection mechanisms and then determines one or two specific solutions. As the owner of the gardens in need of care, homeowners have to, at some point, trust someone and decide what course of action they are willing to take.

I welcome all questions and concerns that anyone has in regard to their own specific garden. Let me know. Enjoy the rest of your summer. My kids come home on Monday and I am so excited to have them home. Enjoy all that is in your life and let those who you care about know how you feel.
