Don’t Smell The Roses Document Their Growth

Today didn’t leave me much time to enjoy the garden but I did have an opportunity to appreciate it. My son had his spring-time concert and before we left I noticed something special. The Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree (latin, Prunus serrulata ‘Kwanzan’) in front of the property, after the rains was wonderful. Spilling pink petals all over the grass and surrounding area, like pink snowfakes in springtime.

I hope the pictures help explain how I felt.

I wanted to get back to something I began the other day. I was talking about an insect called scale on my Snow Fountain Cherry (small weeping Cherry with white flowers early spring). I had actually gone out and by hand rubbed down many of the branches of the small tree to kill and disrupt the scales life-cycle.

You can not expect to get rid of every disease and bug issue on your property. The chemicals we are allowed to use today are designed to reduce the overall population of damaging insects not get rid of every insect. If we ended up killing all the insects we would destroy all the beneficial insects, bacterias and fungi in the process (really opening up a can of worms).  So don’t be afraid of getting to know the bad insects along with the good. You will be surprised by the many wonders in your gardens, you can discover with your children (if you have).

Oh, by the way I mowed the back of my property today for the first time. Now it is time to fertilize. I have already throw the lime down (4 weeks ago). The front will be mowed tomorrow and then compost, starter fertilizer and new seed to thicken up my front properties turf.

Any one have any questions, I am always around to answer and or learn something new. Til then love yourself, love your family and play in your gardens (key word PLAY).  Celebrate Life.
